Operation Reclamation:
Bringing our art & culture back to us.
So often our items are collected and fetishized as souvenirs, to sit unused in non-Native closets, as a talking point or memento of places people have visited.
Many do not know the origin stories of these pieces, while our own peoples may not have the same accessibility to them due to financial insecurity or availability.
We want to bring these pieces home.
Our goal is to adorn Native bodies, to bring our culture back to us, one stitch at a time.
This is for Natives, by Natives.
Please consider supporting and sharing our reclamation project.
About Operation Reclamation:
Born out of a desire to bring Native items back to Native hands, Operation Reclamation:The Parka Project aims to give culture and art to those who have limited access or resources to do so.
Created in summer 2022 by three Indigenous artists, Operation Reclamation is a love letter to our communities by our efforts of bringing home our items.
Through careful repair, we bring back items that have not been taken care of, loved well, or have been forgotten in non-Natives closets.
Our first initiative, The Parka Project is being led by a Dene youth.
